Smartphone app simplifying shuttle bus services

Amano Europe launched a new mobile app during November 2017, simplifying the registration of commuters on shuttle bus services. Non-profit organization Max Mobiel has had the honor to implement this new technology first.

Situation
With its different shuttle bus services, Max Mobiel tries to provide an answer to the increased traffic flow rate in and around the port city of Ghent (Belgium). Its main goal? Making the city attractive again to the working population! With 8 connections in total, Max Mobiel makes sure employees, trainees, temps and business partners safely and drily reach their destination. Until recently, Max Mobiel was missing a reliable system for registering passengers. Counting and adapting to trends were manual, time-consuming processes that could use improvement. Moreover, the profitability of the different connections was hard to estimate. With our mobility solution, we want to provide the market with an easy-to-use, reliable system contributing positively to the day-to-day operations of the driver, and, simultaneously, enhancing the user experience for the passenger. These aspects were taken into account throughout the development process.

How it works

After a one off registration in the new eBadge application, users obtain a personal code which can be registered by the bus driver when hopping on. (Passengers who don't own a smartphone can get a printed code at the HR dpt.) Based on these registrations, Max Mobiel can significantly increase its efficiency and has a clear view on the profitability of each bus line.

Future steps
After a successful test period at Max Mobiel, Amano is determined to further extend the application with new features (reservations, etc.) and increase its reach to various other markets like larger companies having their own transport service, sheltered workplaces, educational institutions and fan clubs. Public transport companies and large events could equally benefit from this simple, efficient solution.
